We’re seeking someone to join our team as Java Developer as a part of our FRPPE- FinTech team, to will play a key role in helping transform how Morgan Stanley operates

Operations Technology

Operations Technology develops and maintains systems in support of Morgan Stanley's global Operations , including (but not limited to) Settlements, Confirmations, Regulatory Reporting, Position Keeping, Corporate Actions processing and other post-trade functions. Operations Technology is a global organization that is client-focused and functionally aligned. Our organization is built to support our clients functional, regional and business-facing requirements while delivering innovative technology and ensuring plant and processing stability. The Firm operates at scale with up to 40 million trades processed on peak volume days and hundreds of billions of dollars of daily settlements with activity ongoing in multiple countries and currencies across the globe. There is a great breadth of financial products that our Operations plant handles across equity and fixed income, from cash products to complex derivatives and loans.

This is Director position that develops and maintains software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

Lead the design and architecture of complex, large-scale, and distributed systems using Java and related technologies.
Architect event-driven and microservices-based solutions leveraging Apache Kafka and similar messaging systems.
Design, develop, and maintain robust RESTful APIs for internal and external services.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams, ensuring best practices in software engineering.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and other architects to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Evaluate and select appropriate tools, frameworks, and technologies to meet business and technical requirements.
Ensure application performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and provide guidance on refactoring and optimization.
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovations to enhance the technology stack.
Follow the best DevOps practices - create CI/CD pipelines, enable capturing telemetry, etc.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Hands-on, with 8+ years’ experience in building distributed systems applying agile practices.
Strong working knowledge of core Java and Spring frameworks, including spring-boot, etc.
Deep understanding of Apache Kafka (topics, partitions, producers/consumers, stream processing, schema management).
Strong experience with REST API design, development, and best practices (OpenAPI/Swagger, API security, versioning).
Solid understanding of microservices architecture, service orchestration, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes is a plus), scalability ,security, and observability.
Working knowledge of Databases including Design, SQL proficiency, and Stored Procedure
A background that includes strong problem solving such as system integration, infrastructure debugging, or system administration.
Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
Fast learner and desire to constantly learn and improve.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or in a related field.
Strong communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-to-on-premises connectivity solutions (e.g., hybrid architectures, secure network gateways).
At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.

Skills Desired (Good to have):

Knowledge with Microsoft Power Platform** (Power Apps, Power Automate).
Web UI framework like Angular or REACT libraries
Knowledge in ML modules in Python or Java
Knowledge in LLMs and prompt engineering.

Hands on experience with cloud technologies
XML Technologies such as JAXB
Ability to coordinate with multiple groups, both internal and external to the firm, including offshore development and QA teams, internal infrastructure groups, vendors, and support teams.
Basic Understanding of ML Algorithms
Working experience in Python.
