Alexa Customer Journeys team is looking for a Software Development Manager in the mission to make Alexa an expert on itself, providing useful information and experiences to customers seeking to take advantage of all of their devices’ features and capabilities.

You will be building solutions and systems working with Large Language Model (LLM) and other generative technologies. You will be managing an interdisciplinary team of Software Development Engineers, Data Scientists and Quality Assurance Engineers, and working with Product Managers to design customer-facing experiences with Alexa, and building solutions to make Alexa an expert in itself through capability detection and tracking.

Key job responsibilities
A successful candidate will have a background in the leading team that owns distributed systems, a solid technical foundation, good communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. As part of this role you will:
1. Build and manage a team of industry-leading software engineers, and foster career growth and a strong team culture.
2. Be responsible for the overall development life cycle of a key component in Alexa - being an expert in itself.
3. Manage and execute against project plans and delivery commitments.
4. Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team.
5. Ensure that design and architecture decisions by your team meet goals and vision of the search service
6. Manage departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
7. Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
8. Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
9. Responsible for both development and operations of product(s)
10. Be highly effective and thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple, changing priorities

Our teams invent on behalf of our customers and have a ton of fun along the way!- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
