Key job responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Innovation
* Architect and implement AI-powered automation solutions for advertising campaign setup and management
* Maintain business continuity and Keep the Lights on for legacy RPA/UI Path Scripts
* Drive technical strategy and adoption of Amazon AI services, including GenAI capabilities
* Review and approve engineering designs, perform code reviews, and maintain high technical standards
* Research and implement innovative AI/ML approaches to solve complex advertising automation challenges

Team Leadership & Development
* Strategically leverage peer Sr SDEs and Applied Scientist to influence design and technology choices
* Lead and grow a team of talented software development engineers building mission-critical systems
* Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering talent
* Foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning
* Establish effective mechanisms for project planning, development, and operational excellence
Stakeholder Management & Communication
* Partner with business stakeholders to translate complex technical solutions into business value
* Drive cross-team collaboration across advertising organizations
* Communicate technical strategies and roadmaps to senior leadership
* Build and maintain strong relationships with product managers and business partners

Operational Excellence
* Own the end-to-end delivery of automation solutions that meet advertising business needs
* Establish and maintain high operational standards for service reliability and performance
* Drive continuous improvement in development practices and system architecture
* Implement effective DevOps practices and monitoring systems

A day in the life
The ideal engineering leader will demonstrate expertise in managing mission-critical legacy systems utilized by hundreds of internal users, while simultaneously driving innovation through next-generation technology adoption. This leader must excel at building strong collaborative relationships with technical peers and subject matter experts across our global organization, particularly with our Seattle-based teams, to influence system design and technology decisions. As a foundational aspect of this role, the successful candidate will spearhead the recruitment and development of a new engineering team, with a focus on attracting and retaining top technical talent.

About the team
The Process Improvement Engineering (PIE) team sits at the intersection of Amazon Advertising's most critical operational workflows. We're a team of builders and innovators focused on transforming how Amazon launches and manages high-value advertising campaigns through intelligent automation. Our mission is to revolutionize advertising operations by combining the latest in AI technology with deep business knowledge.
- 3+ years of systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading edge IT organization experience
- 5+ years of managing system or software development teams experience
- 7+ years of relevant hands-on systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, operating systems experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience in systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization
- Experience in managing system or software development teams
- Experience (hands-on) in systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, and operating systems
- Experience in agile software development methodology
- 7-10+ years of leadership experience in managing large a team of engineers who automate processes - Experience with one or more RPA technologies (E.g.: Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, UiPath, Amazon Q, Amazon Diamond Toolkit framework) and ability to integrate to in-house platforms.
