Job Description

Lead the technical direction and execution for features within the critical Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE).
Coordinate the transfer of understanding and responsibilities to the new Bengaluru team. Prioritize work and manage team resources, ensuring allocation and alignment with objectives.
Oversee engineering execution, holding the team accountable for quality and timeliness. Ensure alignment with the broader working group across Play and Android teams.
Maintain the reliability and maintainability of the OOBE system by addressing bugs, monitoring tests and metrics, and improving systems based on outages.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with large scale application design and architecture.
3 years of experience with Android application development.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

As the Tech Lead for Android Onboarding in Google Play, you will be instrumental in establishing and leading a new engineering team in Bengaluru. This team focuses on the critical Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE), with a mission to create a great first impression and set users up for success on their new device.

In this role, you will define the technical direction and strategy for features enabling users to quickly and reliably copy data and restore essential apps. You will drive key initiatives to restore speed and reliability across all Android devices and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), expanding comprehensive Play-powered restore solutions, and minimizing sign-in friction. You will directly influence the first experience for billions of Android users globally, which is critical for user satisfaction and boosting in-store business.
