The Product

The OCI API Gateway is a platform built and managed by Oracle to enable enterprises to build and secure their APIs. It is a 24x7 enterprise-grade cloud service running at scale in dozens of worldwide commercial, government, and private data centres. We built it from the ground up on the OCI Platform as the foundation of Oracle's next-generation API product suite. It serves many diverse customer needs, and we have a long and extensive roadmap of compelling and technically challenging features.

The Position Principle Software Engineer (IC4)

We seek a world-class Principal Software Engineer to help us build best-in-class services.

As an ideal candidate, you will have knowledge of large-scale services in a distributed cloud environment. In addition, you will understand Linux fundamentals and combine this knowledge with your hands-on experience in software development. You will champion creating an engineering environment that embodies the best development and testing practices for delivering secure, scalable, and highly available services. You should work comfortably in a collaborative, hybrid, and agile environment and be excited to learn.

You would be working on the Oracle API Gateway service, working with a team of engineers responsible for ensuring the success of our customers by adding features and operating the service. As a member of our diverse and skilled teams, you will have the opportunity to solve and design solutions to challenging problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. As part of maintaining stability and reliability of the cloud service, you will automate the standard DevOps procedures, and continuously improve the site reliability engineering. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team of passionate engineers who are fuelled by serving customers and have a penchant for constantly pushing the innovation and quality bar.

About You: Qualifications & Experience

This role is ideally suited to someone with a strong bachelor’s degree or masters conversion in a software-related subject (or equivalent experience) and significant experience building complex platforms in the cloud.

While we don’t stipulate hard minimum requirements, a suitable baseline might include:

BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience.
Proficiency with modern Java and experience with scripting languages such as Python, etc.
Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Experience leading teams, coaching & mentoring junior engineers.
Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership and drive.
A demonstrable track-record of successfully delivering complex technically challenging projects
Experience building microservices and RESTful services
Experience with modern tools like Terraform and Docker is desirable
Experience and knowledge around cloud infrastructure would be great and a definite plus but not essential.
