Enterprise Data Governance & Platforms (EDGP) is part of the larger Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions (EDDS) organization. EDGP improves the customer experience and drives business growth through robust enterprise-wide data policies and governance and enabling a data-driven culture, while developing digital and data platforms that provide insightful customer relationships and allow users to leverage enterprise-wide data capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities

The team is passionate about enabling the best customer experience every day through a differentiated set of products and services. A key part to accomplishing this vision, is knowing your customers (individuals or businesses) and having a comprehensive understanding of that customer. Customer 360 is an AXP-wide capability that provides a global organizational view of entities (that have or had an American Express relationship with at least one product or service globally), comprehensive insights, and linkages for consumer, merchant, and commercial. This will fundamentally reshape our ecosystem and the way we engage with our customers by using Amex internal/external data assets, machine learning algorithms and environment of big data.

As a Product Owner on the Customer 360 Individual Platform team, you will partner closely with Product Manager(s), Data Science, Data Governance, Platforms and Technology teams to drive the Customer 360 product vision and strategy, supporting modernization of the platform and delivering on priorities across Acquisition, Marketing, Sales & Account Development, Compliance, Credit & Fraud Risk, Banking and Servicing.

Functional Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a skilled Product Owner who can work in a cross-functional team and deliver on the following goals and objectives:

  • Lead a team of product analysts and data scientists to drive modernization of Customer 360 Individual platform with the target to improve the quality and availability of data and linkages for Individual Entities
  • Stakeholder management and collaboration across a wide net of partners including Product, Technology and Governance within and outside Customer 360
  • Expertise in storyboarding and creating impactful presentations for driving discussions with senior leadership
  • End to End program management including handling project status, managing, and raising risks and issues
  • Lead specific tracks of product /capability development efforts from conceptualization to launch and maintenance
  • Lead optimization of product backlogs, efficiently translate the business needs into requirements on Rally and articulate it clearly to the scrum teams
  • Ability to write effective testing and acceptance criteria to ensure features are delivered in a timely manner
  • Define, quantify and report on metrics related to product launch, process efficiency and performance
  • Collaborate with scrum team(s) and demonstrating qualities consistent with AMEX leadership dimensions (empower, encourage, influence, deliver)
  • Engaging with use case owners, product managers and partners to ensure smooth delivery of end-to-end product and capability, identifying needs, opportunities and gaps
  • Contribute to hiring top talent for the team and for EDDS

Qualification Requirements:

  • 6+ years Data Management and/or Product Owner in building and launching data capabilities
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information security, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other relevant qualification
  • Strong Leadership experience in leading/creating high performing teams with diverse skills
  • Strong quantitative skills with hands on experience in analyzing large amounts of data and data flows to identify patterns/insights and generate useful recommendations with high value. Ability to compile, summarize, communicate, and present findings with senior leadership.
  • Experience in launching software or services in partnership with engineering teams and high degree of proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, understanding of Agile principles.
  • Good record of getting results in a fast-paced environment and needing to make decision with inaccurate information. Ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus to engage, influence, align and encourage partners and business partners across geographies to drive collaboration and alignment. 
  • Focus on understanding sophisticated business problem and analyze complex data to provide a simplified solution to business partners.
