Functional Description

Enterprise Data Governance & Platforms (EDGP) is part of the larger Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions (EDDS) organization. EDGP improves the customer experience and drives business growth through robust enterprise-wide data policies and governance and enabling a data-driven culture, while developing digital and data platforms that provide insightful customer relationships and allow users to leverage enterprise-wide data capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

The American Express Data Office vision is to realize the potential of our data assets to power the world’s best customer experience. Our mission is to provide the principles, policies, processes, architecture and governance to enable consistent, trusted and usable data to drive accurate data-driven business outcomes. The Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) team is part of the Data Office and plays a critical role partnering across the company to deliver on a multi-year roadmap to bring American Express data under governance.

This role will be part of Enterprise Data Governance Data Activation team and will support the activation of data management (as outlined in the organization’s Enterprise Data Governance Policy) across business units at American Express. This role will also provide support in training, communications, and change management related to data governance across the enterprise. Key responsibilities include:

Execution of data activation activities and processes to bring data under governance (e.g., critical data element prioritization, data mapping, identifying data management roles, documenting data, and classifying systems)
Communicating data management program requirements to federated data management teams
Initiating the training of federated data management teams on foundational processes and activities to bring data under governance
Communicating requirements to teams who own data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, data quality platform, etc.)

Qualification Requirements:

Understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts (metadata, lineage, data quality, etc.) and related metrics to monitor compliance of Data Governance policy and standards
2+ years of prior experience implementing Data Management / Data Governance programs, preferably at the Enterprise level
Basic experience / knowledge of Data Governance / Data Management tools (e.g., Collibra)
Ability to collaborate, influence, and communicate across multiple stakeholders
Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment
High degree of organization, individual initiative, results and solution oriented, and personal accountability and resiliency
Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity
