Meet our team

We are the PayPal SREs - Infra Dev Services Engineering Team primarily responsible for building incident prevention platforms, tools, automation to prevent incidents and improve developer productivity. This team is the driving force behind improving the reliability, performance, and availability of software systems in PayPal.

Our team is looking for a Software Engineer with experience developing across the full application stack, with strong Java skills, solid real-world experience designing and building systems at scale. Passionate about code craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and agile development. Possess a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability. Needs to be dynamic, collaborative, and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed systems powering the world’s largest e-commerce and payments tech giant.

We are looking for an experienced full stack highly skilled Java Engineer to join our development team. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust systems and services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient solutions that drive our business objectives. You will also mentor junior developers and contribute to the strategic direction of our product architecture and dashboards. You will also provide keen judgement in selecting technologies and building the right solution for the meaningful challenges we get to tackle here.

Your day to day

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Development: Oversee the architecture and development of platforms, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability. Experience building API services with popular frameworks and standards (Spring, REST)
Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and contribute to best practices in software development. Participate in architectural initiatives.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross functional, development teams to deliver best in class products and solutions.
Code Review and Quality Assurance: Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality, performance, and security. Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks.
Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in backend development. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and bugs to ensure optimal application performance.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for code, APIs, and technical processes.
Project Management: Assist in planning, estimation, and execution of projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
Innovation: Identify and advocate for new technologies and methodologies to improve development processes and product offerings. Participate in architectural initiatives, balancing long-term velocity with customer needs.

What do you need to bring

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: 5 to 7 years of professional experience in development, with a strong focus on Java.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Java and related frameworks such as Spring. Experience with REST API’s, Java frameworks such as SpringWeb Services, Unit Testing and build tools.
Experience in designing and implementing solutions through hands-on prototyping, development and testing.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design and development.
Experience delivering platforms related to Front End technologies such as Angular, React, Node
Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issue
Proficiency in database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, Oracle and in-memory databases.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Proven interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git.
Highly flexible, able to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines to execute well in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving organization.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
Experience working in payments or financial services industry is a plus.
