How will you make an impact in this role?

The Global Compliance & Ethics (GC&E) organization establishes the framework for American Express’ global compliance risk management program commensurate with the size, complexity and risk profile of the entity.  As an independent risk management function, GC&E is responsible for overseeing the organization’s compliance with regulatory expectations through a combination of monitoring and testing activities.

The Director of Data Analytics and Reporting is a new role that will be responsible for building and overseeing an analytics program designed to identify themes and trends across issues and complaint data with the purpose of driving compliance monitoring activities. Further, this role will assist the GC&E organization in independently gathering and evaluating pertinent data for use in its ongoing administration of its oversight duties. This role is essential in assisting GC&E in evolving the compliance risk management program to ensure the organization adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, have expertise in both building and managing analytic design and optimization efforts, ability to coordinate across cross matrixed environments, and is proficient in generating senior-leader ready reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data from various sources to provide actionable insights.
  • Develop reoccurring reporting that equips GC&E with the data needed to more effectively oversee the compliance framework.
  • Partner with the broader GC&E to define the standards and deliverables to evidence a robust regulatory monitoring program.
  • Drive awareness of regulatory monitoring requirements across the organization, ensuring alignment and accountability.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to distill large datasets into clear, concise, and meaningful information for leadership.
  • Present data findings in a compelling way that tells a clear story, helping leadership understand trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Foster collaboration by engaging with stakeholders at all levels, understanding their needs, and tailoring data solutions to meet those requirements.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Regulatory Compliance team, fostering a culture of compliance excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Governance: Designs, oversees, or substantively participates in risk governance structures, supporting clear accountability and decision-making frameworks that align with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Change risk management: Assesses, manages, or monitors risks arising from organizational, regulatory or environmental changes, so transitions do not expose the organization to new or unintended risks or lead to non-compliance with laws, regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations.
  • Documentation: Develops and maintains practices and reporting to enable accurate and thorough records of risk management activities, supporting accountability and traceability throughout the risk management process.
  • Risk communication and reporting: Communicates risk data, trends and analysis through structured reports, so key stakeholders, including the board of directors and senior leadership, receive timely, aggregate, accurate, complete and relevant information.
  • Compliance regulatory reporting: Aggregates Compliance risk exposures across products, sectors or regions, and report to regulators in line with regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., SR 08-8, Heightened Standards, FRB LFI, CFPB, UK SMR, UK FCA).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics or related field; JD or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data analytics.
  • Professional analytics certification preferred (Coursera, Exam DA-100, CAP)
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to convey analytic results clearly and concisely to senior leadership.
  • Strategic thinking and a being able to act independently in driving day to day operations.
  • Proven track record of managing programs and improving processes within a regulated environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements issued by CFPB, Federal Reserve, FDIC and OCC.
